The use of Cast Iron Stoves for the purpose of burning wood
There are many versions of cast iron stoves available everywhere, but generally all of them share a common functioning process. They can be used to burn a variety of fuels but most of them are wood burning stoves. The presence of cast iron in the middle of 1600s in America let to the formation of a cast iron stove, in Massachusetts. Cast iron, being a very heavy metal is prepared by mixing iron with carbon. This metal is reliable for such stoves because it is hardy and is inured to burns or pressure. So, the cast iron stove can be used for burning a multiple fuels including wood, coal and gas. They are also used in homes for heating purposes as well as cooking purposes in kitchen, especially when the power shortages occur.

Located within the cast iron stove is a hollow box or container, which is used for placing wood or coal in it. In case of a wood burner stove, there is a door through which loading and unloading of the wood logs is carried out. Also, there must also be a convenient way to clean the container when the fuel has totally burnt and ash remains.

Cast iron stoves are made in such a way that the smoke and fumes are conducted through a pipe to the outside of the house, popularly known as the chimney. However, the outlet of the smoke and hot air can be closed on purpose, allowing that tiny little flame to keep glowing under pressure, so that all the wood is efficiently utilized in a wood burning stove. All of the cast iron stoves nowadays come with the insurance of the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) so that less pollution is created.

A wood burner stove, made out of cast iron is not an exception. It is everything that a cast iron stove is, but with an additional detail that it needs wood as a fuel. However, this is not a strict instruction. It can also be utilized using coal or eco bricks.

There are certain things that need to be kept in mind using a wood burning stove. These are;

• The base of a wood burning stove must be made up of earthen, non-inflammable materials like tiles, stone etc�
• This earthen base should extend through a convenient distance into your living area so that in case a flame escapes out of an open door, it never damages your carpet.
• Unless the wall is made up of a fire-proof and heat-resistant material, the cast iron stove is to be kept at a certain distance away from the wall.
• The chimney pipe should be made up of a specific non-inflammatory material and the ceiling should be well insulated, sealed from where this pipe leaves.

Nowadays, a pellet stove which is a specialized form of a wood burner stove is more popular. However, the wood burning stoves are best operated in areas where hardwoods like Apple tree, Birch tree and Oak tree are abundant. Otherwise, the woods need to be imported or either transported so you have your stock of wood ready for the winter!
